LAK of Ink co. is an idea conceived many years ago with the purpose in mind of designing and creating works of art in addition to hand crafted projects in a variety of mediums. Many pieces are a show case of craftsmanship and skill while others are based on concept and design.

The main objective for LAK of ink co. is to not conform to any one description. DaVinci was famous for his Mona Lisa yet brilliant in his design and building of model flying machines along with other ahead-of-his-time concepts. Creativity knows no boundary. Just as illustration is not confined to pen ink, sculpture is not confined to stone. With this philosophy, LAK of ink co. is born.

One goal for LAK of ink co. is to utilize materials that may have been discarded or heading for recycle and turn them into products that can be enjoyed by others in many different ways. Using woods that are deemed scrap to make toys for children or furniture items for one's home is one way to use reclaimed materials. Using scrap steel and other metals to create garden adornments and kitchen items is a great way to reduce the energy needed to recycle the materials.

Let's face it trees may be renewable resource, but the quality of the timber is diminishing. Throughout the course of a construction project there is a substantial amount of scrap generated. Much of it is recycled into engineered wood products using large amounts energy and resources.

So, what about those pieces of old growth fir board left over from the trim inside house? Or even scrap pieces of cabinet grade plywood?

I say utilize and REUSE!

As much as possible the use of reclaimed material are used to create the products as described. However, it is not always possible to exclusively use reclaimed materials.

The projects dictate the materials, but some times the materials inspire the project. Using store bought accessories are at times the more cost effective and add detail that may otherwise not be possible to fabricate.

Few things in life give a sense of satisfaction like seeing a child's eyes light up and thier imagination stir when presented with a handcrafted wooden toy, or using a uniquely made cutting board to prep vegetables for dinner. This is why the use of natural non-toxic or food grade stains and finishes are used whenever appropriate. Woods are selected carefully to ensure toxic woods are used responsibly and do not end up in a child's mouth or in one's food. Quality products should be user friendly and not harmful.
